one of the most exhausting pastimes in the body restoration is the removal old old seized in wood screws.
some were brass which would break off easily and the steel ones were not much better.
i found that the best method to remove the screws without breaking them was to simply heat them up by placing a good strong soldering iron on the screw head for a few minutes. then let the screw cool down which leaves the hole in the wood larger than the previously expanded screw which is now quite loose and can be easily removed.
if the hole is too large to take a slightly larger screw then bore out the hole to take a brass threaded plug and replace the screw with a threaded setscrew. this is much strong anyway and i did this on all the door hinge screw and many of the door fittings.
